Steve and Eydie: Our Love Is Here to Stay
A Tribute To George Gershwin.
An Emmy Award-Winning TV Special.
George Gershwin left an indelible imprint on the World of music.
Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme and Gene Kelly pay tribute to his
musical genius, in an Emmy Award-Winning Special, "Our Love Is Here
To Stay".
The son of immigrant parents, Gershwin grew up on New York's
lower east side and Steve portrays him as a young song plugger at
Remicks. Later, at harms, he's introduced to Al Jolson, who likes a
composition by George called "Swannee." Al Jolson performs it (on
film) and the rest is History.
We then go to Paris, where Steve, Eydie and Gene Kelly show
their children the city that greatly influenced Gershwin when he
first went there in 1924.
We go back to the studio where Steve, Eydie and Gene sing "Tra
La La" "I Got Rhythm" "By Strauss" and "S'Wonderful". Gene sings
and dances to "Somebody Loves Me". Pianist Gerld Robbins and The
New World Philharmonia Orchestra perform Gershwin's classic
"Rhopsody In Blue". Steve and Eydie sing a medley of 24 Gershwin
tunes including "Fascinating Rhythm" "A Foggy Day" "Love Walked
Right In" "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" "Embraceable You" and
"Of Thee I Sing" they close with "Our Love Is Here To Stay".
Producer/Director Dwight Hemion won an Emmy Award for his
direction of the show. Emmy Award-Winner Norman Maen did the
choreography, Nick Perito was the musical director and Emmy
