Ma Calhone's best jockey Johnny Spencer is near to a son to her and also very close to her daughter Mary, so when promoter William Morrissey offers to take him to the big race tracks in New York she is at first unsure. Ultimately she agrees the opportunity is too good to pass up and soon Johnny is off to New York. Morrissey promises to look after the young man but has other plans and soon Johnny is enjoying the nightlife of New York and also the attention of Morrissey's vampish ward Sybil who is out to compromise Johnny's integrity so her daddy can win big at the races!
