In the harsh north country, Wendaban, a young half-breed Indian, flees his cruel mother to live with the kindly trader Merton Layard and his family. There Merton's wife gives Wendahban the white man's name, Donald Norton after her father. Years go by and Donald Norton, now a man, is devoted to the Hudson Bay Trading Company and secretly in love with his foster sister, Janet Layard. But the stigma of being a half-breed stop him from professing his love and may soon cost him his position in the company. Can Donald Norton find a life amongst the whites or will Wendahban have to return to the wigwam in shame?
