When jewel thief French Gertie Jones encounters expert cracksman Jimmy Hartigan on a heist their potential rivalry is forestalled by the arrival of Detective Kelsey. Jimmy takes the rap and allows Gertie to escape and he leaves quite an impression. So later when he gets out of prison the pair team up.
